As an adult volunteer

Leander is entirely run by volunteers. Training, equipment and any necessary uniform are provided, and expenses are fully refunded. We welcome anyone interested in joining us as a leader and while experience of Scouting, Guiding, boating or working with young people is useful, it is by no means essential.

As a young person

We aim to provide equal opportunities for all young people in our local community to experience Sea Scouting with Leander. Unfortunately, we have limited spaces available so we allocate these fairly according to our admissions policy.

We welcome applications from all young people aged 5 - 17. Please fill in their details on the Joining Enquiry Form

Please fill in a separate form for each child. We don't accept applications from children under 5 because our youngest section, Beavers, starts age 6. We will acknowledge receipt, so please add joining@leanderseascouts.org.uk to your safe sender list to make sure you receive our emails.

We give priority to siblings of current members, children of current leaders or those who commit to regular volunteering with us. We may give priority to children who recently moved into the area and was an active member of another Scout group. The remaining places available each term are then assigned by random ballot according to our admissions policy.

We are a uniformed, membership organisation and expect commitment to regular, weekly attendance, also to taking part in occasional weekend activities, as organised.

Subscriptions are currently £18 per month, for 12 months a year, payable by standing order. We ask all parents to complete a Gift Aid form. We don't want anyone to miss out on Scouting because of the cost and can offer reduced subscriptions to those in financial hardship.

Other opportunities nearby

We would love to be able to offer everyone a place at Leander, but we are limited by the number of adult volunteers we have to run meetings, camps and other activities. While you are waiting for a place at Leander, you may want to consider applying to other local Scout Groups. You can find details of all local groups here: Find your local Scout Group
